Some manner of mental influence? How does that work, if not through a bite or the sharing of blood?

[His natural skepticism has him immediately questioning the effectiveness of a simple herb carried on one's person. That said, he trusts Elena's knowledge must come from somewhere. She's the one with the experience in regards to this new type of vampire.]
